Novato is home to the fastest growing real estate market in Marin County where more new houses were built and sold in Novato since 2006 than any other city in the county. The areas that flourished the most during this growth include the planned community of Hamilton Field (near former Hamilton Air Force Base) and several smaller residential developments. Amidst newer modern style homes are older established areas of residence with mid-century ranch style homes. The diverse mix of real estate in Novato ranges from gated communities with multi-million dollar Marin County homes to modest single-family homes, Novato condominiums, and townhouses. Prices for houses in Novato range from $210,000 to almost $5 million. Condominiums in Marin County as well as Novato townhome prices run from $115,000 for a 2 bedroom/1 bathroom condo to $460,000 for bigger spaces (and a median price in the mid $500,000s). For a loan larger than conventional conforming loans, or 'jumbo' loan, the 30 year rate is 4.40%, while the 15 year jumbo rate currently is at 4.12%.
